Strap Two Pieces of Wood to Your Feet
The item of today is to learn how to ski or snowboard. Now most people would say now why do I need to learn how to do that, I’m perfectly happy on the ground. Well the reason being is that
a) It’s a lot of fun
b) You get to see scenery that you would never see if you stayed at the bottom of the hill
c) You get to go really fast and not get in trouble
If you’ve never skied or snowboarded before I suggest that you take lessons. All ski hills offer lessons for beginners. Once you have learned the basics than you’re free to just go.
If you get good enough you could become like these snowboarders:
Heaven in a Cup
The best thing that I have tasted that has comes in a cup is gelato! Now some people think that it tastes the same as ice cream but let me tell you, it doesn’t. Gelato is more smooth and more flavorful. Absolutely heavenly.

The best place to get gelato is located in Vancouver, Canada. The place is called La Casa Gelato which serves 508 flavors of gelato. So even if you’re picky, you’ll find something that you like.
Experience the Real Outdoors
So today in my sociology class my teacher was talking about camping. He asked the class how many people have ever gone camping. And I was shocked at how few people have ever gone camping. Now I’m not talking with the huge RV or in a cabin type camping. I’m talking about the real camping, in a tent, cooking over the fire. So for today’s item on my list everyone is to go REAL camping before they die.

For my own personal experience camping in the woods is best. You can camp in the prairies with very few trees, but it’s just not as beautiful.
Before you go camping ensure that you bring the appropriate equipment.
1. Tent
2. Sleeping bag
3. Food
4. Wood for the fire, stuff to build a fire
5. Warm clothes- it gets cold at night
6. For people unsure about cooking food over a fire, a portable stove with gasoline
7. Friends-always makes the trips more fun
There are so many available camping sites, you just need to look for them. My personal favorite place is anywhere in Kananaskis Country (Canada).
Freeze Your Butt Off
Now this is something that I think would be cool to do, stay at an ice hotel. How often can you sleep outside in the winter time and not freeze to death? This is your opportunity. There are many ice hotels located around the world including Canada, Norway, Finland and Romania.
The original ice hotel was started in Sweden. This ice hotel is located in the town of Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. I know what you’re thinking, isn’t it cold? According to the people running the hotel it does not get below -5 degrees Celsius inside your room and they also provide warm accommodations too which are normal hotel rooms inside a building.
Quick Facts about the Ice Hotel in Sweden:
Cost: $450-830 for two people for one night
Activities: They provide many activities to enjoy while you’re there including snowmobiles, ice sculpting, snow shoeing, and skiing
What to wear: They provide a warm sleeping bag for you as you do sleep on a block of ice, however all you need is a nice pair of thermal pajamas and you’ll be warm enough.
When can you come: The Ice Hotel opens up on December 7th and it is open until the beginning of April.
Even though you may be cold for a night, this would be such an amazing place to go visit.
Ooey Gooey Goodness
So I love food, and that’s why I have another food item that you have to eat before you die. Their called Tim Tam slams. The actual cookie that you eat is called a Tim Tam which is from New Zealand or Australia. How you actually eat this cookie is called the Tim Tam Slam.
How to do it:
1. Take a Tim Tam (can be found at Superstore in the cookie aisle) and bite off the corners that are diagonal from eat other
2. Get a hot beverage, hot chocolate works best.
3. Stick the Tim Tam into the hot beverage and using the cookie as a straw suck the hot beverage up.
4. The second you feel hot liquid in your mouth stuff the whole Tim Tam in your mouth. If you don’t the cookie will fall apart and you’ll have a huge mess. When you suck the hot beverage through the Tim Tam, the chocolate melts as does the inside creating ooey gooey goodness.
Here’s a video of someone doing a Tim Tam slam in case these instructions confuse you.
Now if you want to be like a Tim Tam pro you have to do this without using any hands. Sounds tricky but with practice you can do it. This is best done with a bunch of friends as you can laugh at each other while doing it.
Stain of a Lifetime
How many times have you wanted to start up a food fight, but you hear in the back of your mind your mom telling you not to. Well here’s your chance to get in the world’s biggest food fight and not get in trouble. What is it? La Tomatina! This is a huge tomato fight in the streets.
Details
Where: Bunol, Spain
When: End of August
Why: Celebrate the end of the harvest
This food fight only lasts one hour and ends with trucks spraying water over the crowd, cleaning up the damage.
Who wouldn’t want to throw tomatoes at their friend just for the fun of it?
Christmas to the Max
This next item has been on my list for a long time and I still have yet to complete it. I have always wanted to experience Christmas time in New York City. I know Christmas time is over but that doesn’t mean that you can’t plan for next year.
What can you do in New York City at Christmas time you may ask?
1. Watch the Rockefeller Christmas Tree light up
2. Ice Skating in Central Park
3. Go watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Broadway
4. Shopping
5. If you’re there over New Years go to Time Square and watch the ball drop.
There are plenty of other things that you can do and enjoy while you’re there. These are just a select few.
Ice Blocking
If you’re ever really bored this is a great thing to do with a bunch of friends. It’s called ice blocking. What you do is you get a block of ice (should be big enough to sit on) that you can find at any grocery store. Then you find a hill, the bigger the hill the more extreme the ride will be. Next sit on the block of ice and ride down the hill. The tricky part of this stunt is trying to stay on the block of ice the whole trip down the hill. But once you’ve gone down the hill a few times you’ll be able to make it down no problem. Another issue you may have is that your butt gets really cold from sitting on the ice. To help with this issue, just get a towel and place it on the ice where you will sit.
Here is a video of people ice blocking.
As you notice, they are doing it on grass and not snow. If you want to make it more extreme try it on snow. You’ll go a lot faster and in my opinion it’s more fun.
Chicken on a Stick
So here’s another food item that you have to eat. It’s chicken on a stick. And you may be able to find this anywhere, particularly at fairs, but the real place that you need to get one just for the experience is at the 7-11 in Claresholm, Alberta. Wow, doesn’t that sound appetizing? Really it sounds really gross, but it’s super good. I myself have stopped many times on my way to Lethbridge at this 7-11 and eaten a chicken kabob and I must say every time I leave there I am satisfied.
How to get there? The easiest way to find directions is by going to mapquest and typing in your home town and then directions to Claresholm. The 7-11 is located right on the highway, you can’t miss it.
