I always enjoy watching the Olympics. It doesn’t matter if it’s the summer or the winter ones, I always find something interesting. I also love how everyone seems to get so into watching these games. People around the world are all tuning into their TV’s cheering on the athletes from their country. I can remember when the Olympics were on during exam week in high school and my brother and I watched the games all day long. If events weren’t live on TV, we watched the commentaries to the games from that day and replays. But how cool would it be to actually go and watch the games live. So for today’s item: You are to attend the Olympic games.

If you’re wanting to attend the Olympic games make sure that you plan early. Plan to buy your tickets at least a year in advance as some of the events sell out quickly.

This year are the summer Olympics in Beijing. Only 133 days to go! I’m especially excited for the winter Olympics in 2010 as their in my home country, Canada!

Here is a video from the 1996 Olympics. It is Dominique Moceanu’s amazing beam routine.

Crickey!

Ever since Steve Irwin stepped on the scene I loved watching him.  Something about how he interacts with the animals was so interesting.  He was the type of person who truly cared for the animals and wanted to inform viewers on these animals.  When Steve died I was devastated.  We lost an amazing person.

However, his legacy lives on through his daughter Bindi and his zoo in Brisbane, Australia.  I went to Steve’s zoo in Australia and it was like no other zoo I’ve ever been to.  It was so much fun and I think a place that everyone needs to visit before they die.  For today’s item:  You are to go to the Australia Zoo in Brisbane, Australia.

Why is this zoo so amazing?  Well for one, the animals all seem to enjoy it there.  They have big homes and everything is so open.  They even have this place called Kangaroo Haven where the kangaroos are all jumping around and you can go into this area and pet the kangaroos.  The zoo also has shows throughout the day where visitors can learn about the animals at the zoo.

It’s a great place to visit for the whole family!

Keeping with the water theme from yesterday I thought that for today’s item you have to go on one of the best water parks in the world.  There’s just something about water parks that draws in huge numbers.  Maybe it’s the thrilling water slides or just the chance to lay around in the sun.

What are the best water parks?  Here is a list of the Top 5 in the U.S.A.

1.   Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, Texas

2.  Wet ‘n Wild in Orlando, Florida

3.  Noah’s Ark in Wisconsin Dell, Wisconsin

4.  Splashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana

5.  Water World in Denver, Colorado

Some other highly recognized water parks include Blizzard Beach in Florida, Typhoon Lagoon in Florida, Aqualandia in Spain and  Ocean Dome in Japan which is the largest indoor water park in the world.

Where Dreams Come True

Where is the one place where everyone can act like a kid and not feel like a fool?  Disney World of course.  Something about Disney World just makes you feel like a kid again and it’s okay.  Disney World is fun for everyone, both the young and the old and definitely a place that everyone has to visit before they die.

If you can’t make it to Disney World in Florida, there are other Disney themed parks around the world.  They include Disneyland in California, Disneyland Paris and  Tokyo Disney.

Why go to a Disney Themed Park?  Well for starters you can go meet your favorite Disney friends like Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy.  But there’s also amazing rides.  My favorites are the hotel themed Tower of Terror and the Rockin’ Rollercoaster.   If you don’t enjoy rides there’s fireworks every night and parades during the day.  Disneyland is the place where you can go, leave your work behind you and enjoy yourself.

Where to go in 2008

March 5, 2008 at 2:17 pm (Places) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Have you ever wondered out of everywhere in the world, where are you to visit in 2008?  Well according to the New York Times, St. Petersburg, Russia was voted the place to go in 2008.  Now if you’re like me, you don’t know much about St. Petersburg and you want to know why you should go there instead of somewhere more tropical such as Hawaii.  Well here are some reasons why you should change your vacation plans and instead make your way over to Russia.

1. The Kremlin and Red Square

2.  The Hermitage Museum/The Winter Palace

3.  Tour the city by boat

4.  Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood

5.  Saint-Issac’s Cathedral

These are just some of the main attractions in St. Petersburg.  There are also many amazing restaurants, clubs and hotels to visit while here.

Wonder?

February 23, 2008 at 11:08 pm (Places) (, , , , , , , )

The other day I was talking to my friend and she asked me what the seven wonders of the world were.  And really I couldn’t tell her.  We each came up with different ideas of what could be classified as one of them and really we weren’t too sure if they were man-made wonders or ones found in nature.  So I decided to look it up.  It turns out that there are many seven wonders of the world.  It just depends on how you want to classify it.

There are:

1.  The seven wonders of the ancient world

2.  The seven wonders of the medieval mind

3.  The seven natural wonders of the world

4.  The seven underwater wonders of the world

5.  The seven wonders of the modern world

6.  The seven forgotten wonders of the modern world

And many more.  So for today’s item that you must do, you must go to one of the seven wonders of the world.  Depending on what list interests you will determine which wonder you should attend.  For me personally I would chose the seven natural wonders of the world because they are just amazing.

A Night of Talent

February 11, 2008 at 11:02 am (Places) (, , , , , , , )

Yesterday was the Grammys and as always, it was a night full of talent. For today’s item you are to attend the Grammys. Who wouldn’t want to attend this show and be in the presence of so much talent as well as get to see some of that years best talent perform?

This year’s show was full with Alicia Keys performing with Frank Sinatra, Tina Turner and Beyonce singing together and Kanye West giving a tearful tribute to his mom. One disappointment was the fact that Song of the Year artist, Amy Winehouse, was unable to attend due to not being able to get a Visa. Fortunately she did perform via satellite.

Overall the night was great and definitely a place that everyone should go within their lifetime.

One Big Yawn Fest?

February 7, 2008 at 6:40 pm (Places) (, , , , , , , )

So last Sunday was the Super Bowl. And really if you ask me, any other time, if I like football, I would have to say no. But there’s something about the Super Bowl that intrigues me. Something about the million dollar commercials and the devoted fans, you can’t help but watch it.

However, why would you want to watch something on TV when you can watch it in person. For today’s item you are to attend the Super Bowl. This way you can be right in the action and see why everyone gets to into this game.

For those who don’t like football, there’s always the half time show which is always a joy, especially when Tom Petty is performing. You never know, you may experience a event that created so much buzz like the Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake catastrophe.

If football isn’t your sport, March Madness is just over a month away!

Virtually No Limit

February 4, 2008 at 3:24 pm (Activity, Places) (, , , , , , , )

How would you like to drive as fast as you want and not get a ticket? One of the places that you can do this is on the Autobahn.

The Autobahn is a series of freeways that help you get from one place to another. The recommended speed on the Autobahn is 130km/hr however there are several places where there is no listed speed limit which means some cars exceed 200km/hr. However, there are some areas on the Autobahn that a speed limit is posted and drivers should follow this.  These speed limits are for the Autobahn in Germany.  The Autobahn in other countries have different speed limits.

The Autobahn is located in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

This is a video of someone on the Autobahn reaching a maximum speed of 194mph.

Freeze Your Butt Off

January 29, 2008 at 12:13 am (Places) (, , , , , , , )

Now this is something that I think would be cool to do, stay at an ice hotel.  How often can you sleep outside in the winter time and not freeze to death?  This is your opportunity.  There are many ice hotels located around the world including Canada, Norway, Finland and Romania.

The original ice hotel was started in Sweden.  This ice hotel is located in the town of Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle.  I know what you’re thinking, isn’t it cold?  According to the people running the hotel it does not get below -5 degrees Celsius inside your room and they also provide warm accommodations too which are normal hotel rooms inside a building.

Quick Facts about the Ice Hotel in Sweden:

Cost:  $450-830 for two people for one night

Activities:  They provide many activities to enjoy while you’re there including snowmobiles, ice sculpting, snow shoeing, and skiing

What to wear:  They provide a warm sleeping bag for you as you do sleep on a block of ice, however all you need is a nice pair of thermal pajamas and you’ll be warm enough.

When can you come:  The Ice Hotel opens up on December 7th and it is open until the beginning of April.

Even though you may be cold for a night, this would be such an amazing place to go visit.
